在東京米国大使館は東京で非移民ビザ（NIV）申請者の申請手数料支払い方法を変更しました。この変更により、米国大使館の予約システムを利用してビザ面接の予約をするためには、手数料の支払いから４時間以上待たなければならなくなりました。この変更はB（観光）ビザ、F（学生）ビザ、L（企業内転勤）ビザ、E（投資）ビザ等、全ての非移民ビザに適用されます。
重要な変更には次の点が含まれます。
非移民ビザの面接申込は、平日にビザ申請手数料の支払手続を完了してから4時間経過した以降でないとできません。米国大使館のウェブサイトはクレジットカードでも支払が可能としていますが、その場合は支払手続きを完了してからビザ面接の予約が可能になるまで１日以上待たなければならない可能性があります。また、申請手数料の支払を行う際には、米国大使館がお知らせする「transaction number」を必ず書き留めておく必要があります。 面接予約の際には、この「transaction number」を入力する必要があるからです。

2010年9月8日より、米国政府によりESTA申請料が課されます。この申請料は2種類の料金により構成されています。
- 手数料－ESTAの申請者全員が4ドルの申請手数料を請求されます。
- 認証費－申請が認可され、ビザ免除プログラムでの渡米の認証を受けた場合、申請者のクレジットカードに追加10ドルが請求されます。ESTA申請が却下された場合は、申請手数料のみの請求となります。

A Korea-born pastor who owns and operates a religious school in Fullerton, Calif., is expected to make his initial appearance in federal court Wednesday to answer to charges that he used the school as a front for an elaborate student visa fraud scheme, going so far as to hand out phony diplomas and stage graduation ceremonies.
Samuel Chai Cho Oh, 65, owner of California Union University (CUU), surrendered to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents Tuesday morning. Oh, who also serves as pastor of the Union Church housed on the CUU campus, is accused in a criminal complaint of conspiracy to commit visa fraud.
NAFSA Association of International Educators released a report urging for a reform in US immigration and visa policy regarding international students and migrant workers.

After the current WBC lightweight boxing champion Edwin Valero had been denied a work visa back in September, 2009, he finally fought away from the United States in Venezuela on Saturday, December 19.
Spanish-language magazine Boxeo Mundial recently reported that Valero believed his U.S. visa denial was related to his sympathy with President Hugo Chávez, a fierce critic of U.S. government. Valero has an image of Chávez tattooed on his chest along with a Venezuelan flag (see photo). Other reports dispute this, pointing to Valero’s driving-under-the-influence of alcohol (DUI) charge in the United States earlier this year.
